One hundred years after the discovery of his grave, Visconti dedicates a special limited edition collection to the most famous character in ancient Egyptian history.
“Do not separate your heart from your tongue and all your actions will be successful.”
THE DISCOVERY OF THE GRAVE
One of the most important events in the cultural history of the 20th century was the discovery of Tutankhamun’s grave: in 1922, the team of archaeologists led by British Howard Carter found the burial of a pharaoh who had escaped the grave robbers for hundreds of years. For the first time, it was possible to admire an intact burial box, a unique collection of everyday objects, artworks and food supplies. Our special box, made of wood, is a reproduction of the sarcophagus: inside it contains the pen, as precious as the pharaoh’s found jewellery. A pedestal made of olive wood is included for support.
THE FUNERAL MASK
Having ascended the throne at the age of only nine, “the child pharaoh” was buried adorned with a mask more than 50 centimetres high and made of two layers of high-carat gold. It was set with coloured glass and gems, including lapis lazuli, quartz and obsidian. Visconti has taken the most characteristic elements of the mask to bring the Tutankhamun pen to life: the blue cap picks up the colour of the headgear and the snake. The barrel is decorated with small blue, red and green sections reminiscent of the necklace. The blind cap, on the other hand, echoes the beard. The pen’s metalwork is plated with satin-finished yellow gold.
