Medina
Visconti, always attentive in giving importance with its creations to aspects and themes of our living, has dedicated the Mystic Pens collection to all the religions of the world. Islam is one of them, so we thought to give a tribute to the symbolic city where Muhammad was mostly active and died: Medina.
“The ink of the wise is holier than the blood of the martyr.”
Muhammad
THE CITY
Medina, in Arabic al-Madīna al-munawwara, “The illuminated city”, is located in the Saudi region of Hijāz, in the Arabian Peninsula. It rises in a fertile oasis: it is bordered to the east by a vast lava field, part of which dates back to a volcanic eruption in 1207 AD. On the other three sides, the city is surrounded by arid hills belonging to the Hejaz mountain range.
THE HOLY CHAMBER
The focus of the whole pen is the wonderful microcast artwork on the barrel, representing the doors of the holy Chamber where the prophet is buried. The same decorative patterns are also present on the cap, adorned with a large ring, in harmony with the barrel. The cap reminds the famous dome, one of the most well known symbols of Islam together with the Kaaba. The clip recalls the form of the many columns inside the Mosk.
