Materials

The artisanally made resin barrel and cap are decorated with some of Da Vinci’s revolutionary technical drawings of machines. These illustrations were taken from the Atlantic Codex, one of the greatest collection of the Tuscan genius’s drawings and writings.

Craftsmanship

The Machina fountain pen comes in two versions. One with metal fittings in silver Ag925, the other in pink gold. These refined pieces are made with lost wax casting. The body of the pen is decorated with some of Da Vinci’s beautiful drawings using the scrimshaw technique.

The Scrimshaw Technique

In order to guarantee a beautiful final result, precision and extreme attention to detail are fundamental.

The artisan works ‘in the dark’ with the scrimshaw incision since very little can be perceived until the ink is deposited inside the lines.
